Dogma vs discovery in resource geology: Examples from porphyry Cu-Au systems
4 May 2017 | Seminar
The high degree of variability in Nature commonly results in unexpected geological features, despite our end-member classification and modeling attempts. Discovery, whether in mineral exploration practice or in laboratory science, requires a prepared but also an open mind. Discoveries of major new mineral deposits in Peru, Ecuador and Turkey in magmatic-hydrothermal Cu-Au ore systems using lateral thinking will be examined after outlining a geochemical framework of understanding ore-forming processes.
